4.Lineage Records

4.1.Filename: National Geotechnical Borehole Database.

Date (dd/mm/yyyy): Databank assembled from the late 1960s/ early 1970s.

Originator.- The Geotechnical Section of the Geological Survey of Ireland.

Nature of change/update to data

Ongoing addition of new data as more reports are received. Ongoing validation of data input. Ongoing digitising of borehole/trial pit locations. Updating every time a new record is entered into the Oracle database.

Methodology.-

Information entered in an Oracle database.

Sources Used as input Data for the change /update.-

Main data sources for the data input/ editing are the geotechnical reports.

Scripts/tools used.-

None

Contact details for further information on scripts/Tools.-

Ronnie Creighton, Geotechnical Section, Geological Survey of Ireland, Beggars Bush, Haddington Road, Dublin 4.

4.2.Filename: Geotech MapViewer (All_boreholes.mdb)

Date (dd/mm/yyyy): January 2007

Originator.- The Geotechnical Section of the Geological Survey of Ireland.

Nature of change/update to data

Data have been output from the Geodatabase and imported into ArcGIS as a XY’s file.

Methodology.-

Borehole data was exported from the Geodatabase into ArcGIS.

Sources Used as input Data for the change /update.-

One of the table form the geodatabase called “Borehole_Description”.

Scripts/tools used.-

None

Contact details for further information on scripts/Tools.-

Ronnie Creighton, Geotechnical Section, Geological Survey of Ireland, Beggars Bush, Haddington Road, Dublin 4.

4.3.Filename: “boreholes_met. mdb” and “boreholes_not_met. mdb”

Date (dd/mm/yyyy): January 2007

Originator.- The Geotechnical Section of the Geological Survey of Ireland.

Nature of change/update to data

Selected and output from All_boreholes.mdb.

Methodology.-

From the “Borehole_Description” table, a selection was done based on the DTB_CONFID so the boreholes were split in those with bedrock met and not met and exported as a Personal Geodatabase feature class.

Sources Used as input Data for the change /update.-

One of the table from the geodatabase called “Borehole_Description”.

Scripts/tools used.-

None

Contact details for further information on scripts/Tools.-

4.4.Filename: “boreholes_met. shp” and “boreholes_not_met.shp”

Date (dd/mm/yyyy): January 2007

Originator.- The Geotechnical Section of the Geological Survey of Ireland.

Nature of change/update to data

Boreholes_met. mdb” and “boreholes_not_met.mdb were converted into a shapefile

Methodology.-

Boreholes_met. mdb” and “boreholes_not_met.mdb were exported as shapefiles using the ArcGIS 9.1 conversion tools.

Sources Used as input Data for the change /update.-

Boreholes_met. mdb” and “boreholes_not_met.mdb previously used.

Scripts/tools used.-

None

9.Quality Ratings

Spatial Accuracy: Site plans and borehole locations are digitised in Map Object software on 1:5,000 digital maps for main urban areas (accuracy field, mostly <10m) and elsewhere on 1:50,000 digital base maps. Grid References are six figure references for both northing and easting. This accuracy would also apply to these dataset for being a sub-dataset from the National Geotechnical Borehole Database.

Thematic Accuracy

Correct description and names of the fields have been given.

Currency

The information available is accurate and currently in use.

Logical Consistency

Fields were filled in correctly so that there are no inconsistencies.
